DENGKIL

a short time spent

"The Sun starts to set and so do I.." is what I am trying to convey but now it just

sounds overdone.

Moving Out

Dengkil was a surprise. We just finished our mid-semester test so I thought that we would stay in Puncak Alam until the semester ends. Alas, fate had set on a different course. I was not too keen on the idea of packing and unpacking all over again. My housemates too had the same concern and we all started to express our disagreement. But, life goes on. No matter how much we moped, things would not change unless we make the best of what we have. The one thing that brought us completely down and under was the fact that we would not share the same house anymore. On the other hand, we were completely spoiled in Puncak Alam with huge rooms for each of us. Now, not only would we be in different houses, but we would also be in smaller rooms. It was a chain of disappointment. We were already comfortable with each other, it was too soon for us to part. However, time does not wait for any man, and the day dawned upon us quickly.

Luckily, Anis and I were assigned to the same house. As expected, I had a hard time shoving my luggages in, and I had to strategise how to unpack properly. There was not enough room at all. I felt a little sorry for my roommate because I put some of my stuff on her bed without her consent for a short while. Then, Anis and I said our goodbyes as we head to our respective homes. What I did not expect was that most of my housemates would not be in the house for a few weeks or so due to MUET, including Anis. I felt dreadful.

The Dengkil Life

Shortly after mid-semester break was over, I came back to Dengkil. My roommate was not coming back until she finished her MUET. In fact, until this day I have never met her. Anis, too, was not there. I decided to distract myself by rearranging my books and decorating my study table. I brought over my two plants, Joon and Sora, to accompany me in Dengkil. At first, there was only Sofea, my new housemate, with me in the house. The rest were not there. So, I headed over to Radin's house and slept at her place instead. This was because Sofea wanted to sleep with her friends as well. I do admit that I am a bit of a scaredy-cat, but I have justifiable reasons. Sofea is a nice person, but it was a bit awkward between us as she seemed more comfortable in Dengkil. I was new, so I ventured out.

It is really sad that I could never fully experience the Dengkil Life that all the alumni talked about. My ex-senior, Farisya, was the one who encouraged me to choose UiTM TESL along with the Dengkil Campus. My cousin who was once an Engineering foundation student in Dengkil also said that it was great there. Unfortunately, unexpected things happen all the time. I can see the beauty of Dengkil, but I never had the chance to truly experience the campus life. I only walked to the PTAR Library and cafeteria whenever I needed to. It was very small in comparison to Puncak Alam, but the short distance between the campus and the facilities is undeniably convenient.

Count My Blessings

I spent less time out in Dengkil, like I usually am back home. But there were still times when I had fun. I think I am particularly fond of the PTAR Library. Radin and I signed up for a random Scavenger Hunt, and guess what? We won first place. There were a few other events too, which we respectively won third place in. I also managed to finish my Literature Exhibition presentation and College Study Skills report here. I spent a good amount of time with my team members, and we had a lot of fun together. I give my thanks to Meera, Dals and Aiman for making each work successful and enjoyable. On a few special occasions, I got to meet Madam Fatimah for one class and Sir Afiq. I also remember the time when Sofea gave me one of her noodle packs. I was really hungry and that small gesture made me happy. I spent most of my time studying in my room and watching my Anime shows, specifically Hunter x Hunter. I managed to make Dengkil feel like home.

Going Back Home

Unfortunately, COVID-19 cases spiked up in our country again. I already left a week earlier before the reinforced MCO announcement with half of my belongings, but I never got to properly say goodbye to Dengkil. I continued the rest of my ODL at home. It was nothing unbearable. I do miss my friends however, and I miss being with my housemates. I would like to wish for COVID-19 to be over soon, as the front-liners are working so hard for the country. I can only wish on their behalf and for those who are deeply affected by this pandemic. Please stay safe wherever you are, and I hope that your dreams will still come true despite the challenges you may face.
