Everyone looks cute here, especially Miss Shanaa.

ABOUT MY LECTURER

Out of all the lecturers, I am pretty sure Miss Shanaa is the youngest (I am sorry if this is not a true fact). Yet, she carries herself as if she has walked ten different paths of wisdom. She exudes professionalism when she handles us in teaching, but she also manages to make us feel comfortable around her. From my perspective, Miss Shanaa is quick-witted and knows what she wants us to achieve, but I also feel that the amount of pressure she gives us is just right.

What do I think about the course?

I think College Study Skills is a very interesting course. Why is that? Well, it is the course that prepares us for the "new world", in other words, the future.

I had no idea what the course had in store for me. When Miss Shanaa asked us to film a video every week about our reflection on certain things, I was a bit puzzled. I did not know how I was going to execute that. I never liked being in pictures, let alone talking in front of the camera. But, the first week of Social Media Diary came anyways. I adjusted my phone 'like a Vlogger', and started answering the question for the first week. It was a new feeling for me, but it was not bad.

As weeks passed, having to film Social Media Diary became a routine. I knew where I wanted to film and what I wanted to say beforehand. In fact, more ideas came flooding into my mind when Miss Shanaa gave us a feedback and encouraged us to be creative. I liked editing videos, so why was I not doing more than just posting videos of myself talking for this?

I decided to film different spots to fit in with my recorded narratives, and pieced it all together like art. It made me so happy. Along the way, I also learned new skills on editing. It was like killing two birds with one stone.

Besides that, most of the Social Media Diary entries were related to what we learnt. For instance, we had to talk about our favourite learning styles at one point in conjunction to what we learned on that week. There were also entries that required for us to talk about how to manage stress and prepare for exams. For me, I find this method efficient as we are supposed to put in our own thoughts and apply the knowledge we gained from each class. This way, we were not just passively learning.

This course has allowed me to venture out from my comfort zone and be confident with myself and my own words. I also got to be in touch with creative parts of me that I did not realize was there. Miss Shanaa's comments about our videos during every class helped us to improve on our mistakes and what we lacked.

Overall, this course is really fun.

EVENT MANAGEMENT

One of our main projects was the Event Management task. I was in the same team with Meera, Dals and Aiman (it is a work of fate). We chose Arabian Nights as our theme. The idea behind it was to learn about other cultures and to also improve our English proficiency in various ways such as acting, reciting poetry and story-telling. We created a questionnaire to find out the suitability and convenience of our event for the guests. In the end, we successfully wrapped up with a report. It was a product of our cooperation and each member's input.

Final thoughts?

To Miss Shanaa : Thank you for being the coolest lecturer ever. If I were to put it in a more proper way, thank you for teaching us earnestly and relaying your knowledge to us.

To TSL051 : Thank you for allowing me to create and reflect on the events of my life.
