INTRODUCTORY

LITERATURE

Out of all the courses, this was probably the most eventful one.

ABOUT MY LECTURER

Madam Naga. Where do I start? She is a very wise person. I like how she is able to expand her thoughts on a particular poetry, short story or novel. It does not just end at what is written itself, but also crosses to our own reality and perception. She makes things that seem invaluable at first glance, valuable. A mind of gold. Though, she is very strict, I still find her strictness as a form of kindness. It means that she willingly wants us to progress with a wider mindset and force ourselves to go outside of the box.

What do I think about the course?

If I could name one course as an eye opener, I would definitely choose Introductory Literature. Each piece of literature in this course carried great significance but varied in context. It trains the mind to travel to different standings, cultures and places.

Usually, people would give a straightforward answer to a question that is asked.

"Would you let one child suffer for the happiness of others?"

"No", people would reply, "I would not".

That would be the end of the conversation, no elaboration, nothing. However, in this course, you are required to critically think about your choices of words and your actions. Are you that morally justified? Is this what you would really do if the roles were reversed? You are asked to THINK again.

There were also instances where you would have to pick up all the little details the author had dropped in their work. What was the reason Henry Slesar used Room 404 as the room where Dickie meets his end? What was the reason Bessie Head chose to make murder, something so gruesome and explicit, as something light without even mentioning the details of said murder? There are so many things to ponder about in literature.

This course allows you, in this case me, to dive in deep into another person's imagination. What were they trying to convey? What is the important message here? There are many themes that provoke the readers to question the values in the story. It is is not something so simple.

Even if it was simple, it would not be a Llterature course, would it? There are many ways that language can be exploited in order for it to change the meaning of a text. In fact, with different people, the possibilities increase to hundreds. Introductory Literature is an incredible course for us students to delve into.

PRESENTATION

We had to present two times for literature– one is the Literature Exhibition, where we have to collect 5 poems regarding our respective themes, and the other is the Novel Presentation. In both presentations, I shared the same group with Meera, Dals and Aiman. I could say that I am blessed and grateful to be in a team with them, as both presentations were successful in our eyes. The video on top of the page is also a part of our Literature Exhibition. We had a lot of fun doing that.

Final thoughts?

To Madam Naga : Thank you for showering us with your wisdom.

To TSL082 : Thank you for letting me explore different outlooks in their respective works.
